A lot of people use the default WordPress Recent Post widget. But what if you wanted to add a bit more “visual boom” on that widget by simply adding a thumbnail to it? Well, that’s easy using the plugin Recent Posts Widget With Thumbnails.
Now this isn’t the only plugin out there and it’s not feature heavy. In fact, it’s small and fast. It does one thing, and one thing only.
Here is the settings for your default Recent Post widget.
And the result is this in your sidebar.
Now if we look at the settings in the Recent Posts Widget with Thumbnails, it’s not overwhelming… just enough. The fact you can control the size of the thumbnail, as well as give some direction to which image you want pulled in, is almost perfect. Some people may miss the option to align the image, but hey, it works fine.
And the it does give a bit of visual appeal in the frontend of your site, compared to the default widget.
The only thing is it does take up a bit more real estate in your sidebar. But if your focus is on images, it might be worth the space.
